What Do Gay Men Want?

2007, David M. Halperin. How we can talk about sex and risk in the age of barebacking—or condomless sex—without invoking the usual bogus and punitive clichés about gay men’s alleged low self-esteem, lack of self-control, and other psychological “deficits”? Are there queer alternatives to psychology for thinking about the inner life of homosexuality? What Do Gay Men Want? explores some of the possibilities.

Unequal Opportunity: Health Disparities Affecting Gay and Bisexual Men in the United States

2008, Edited by Richard J. Wolitski, Ron Stall and Ronald O. Valdiserri
. Until very recently, the relative invisibility of gay and bisexual men and a paucity of empirical data have hampered attempts to identify health disparities experienced by gay and bisexual men. This book reviews and synthesize evidence of health disparities among gay and bisexual men, identifies individual and community factors that contribute to these disparities, and articulates strategies for public health efforts to eliminate disparities. To date, these disparities have been largely discussed in isolation in the research literature in a manner that does not permit a comprehensive examination of these problems, their underlying causes, and potential solutions. A primary emphasis of the book documents health disparities among gay and bisexual men while also describing public health solutions to these challenges.

Gay Men and Anal Eroticism - Tops, Bottoms and Versatiles

2003, by Steven G. Underwood. A no-holds-barred examination of one of society's most persistent taboos. In a remarkably candid collection of frank and forthright interviews, 21 gay men talk about the role anal sex plays in their lives and relationships and their choices to act as insertive (“top”) or receptive (“bottom”) partners—or both (“versatile”). Ranging in age from 21 to 65, the men discuss the reasons behind (and consequences of) their choices; how they define their sexual roles (and how those roles are defined by gay society); issues of power, trust, and vulnerability; and the concept (in both straight and gay society) that tops and bottoms are socially and morally unequal. 2003, by Steven G. Underwood.

Gay Men's Wellness Guide

1997, Robert Penn. The National Lesbian and Gay Health Association's complete book of physical, emotional, and mental health and well-being for every gay male.Amazon.com says - "In the past decade gay men have been deluged with books about AIDS, safe sex, and HIV prevention. And while many of these books have been useful, their emphasis on AIDS often precluded discussion of other aspects of physical and mental health. There are many specifically gay male health issues that are never discussed in health books written for the general public, from the pleasures and pitfalls of anal sex to living in a subculture that emphasizes the idealized body to dealing with the homophobia that confronts gay people every day. Robert E. Penn has written a complete guide to gay male health that, along with supplying complete information on HIV and AIDS, deals with nutrition, aging, common physical ailments, abuse issues, body building, and sexual health. Penn's style is readable and his medical information is clearly explained and up-to-date. The Gay Men's Wellness Guide is an important addition to the ever-growing literature on AIDS and health issues."
